Lyrics
White light surrounds me
Life flashes on before my eyes
Into the unknown
My body drifts into the night
Will water take me?
With open arms, I fade away
I can see this ending
Before the night will turn to day
But then I see your smile
And I feel your broken heart
I wake to fight the current
But…I’m drowning in the dark
Chorus
Under crystal stars that line the moonlit skies
And I can see the fire in your eyes
And I can see the fire…
In your eyes
I’ve felt betrayal
But none could measure up to this
All that I fought for
Drifts off into the deep abyss
I tried to save them
I tried to stand right by their sides
They wouldn’t have me, so
I realize now I’d rather die
But then I see your smile
And I feel your broken heart
I wake to fight the current
But…I’m drowning in the dark
(Chorus)
But then I see your smile
And I feel your broken heart
I wake to fight the current
But…I’m drowning in the dark
Under crystal stars that line the moonlit skies
And I can see the fire in your eyes
And I can see the fire…in the dark
Under crystal stars that line the moonlit skies
And I can see the fire…in your eyes

Trivia
The lyrics come from the perspective of a character in Bryce’s long-overdue novel trilogy, Legend of the Flaming Eye. In this part of the story, the character seemingly falls to their death, but later awakens in the water, drifting “into the night.” They realize they’ve been betrayed by those whom they thought were friends, and the memory of a long lost loved one inspires them to take action.
Musically, “Turning Point (Fire in Your Eyes)” was influenced by the Breaking Benjamin album Dear Agony.
A piano part was intended for the final pre-chorus, but Bryce fell in love with the eerie silence of keeping it a cappella instead.
While trying to write the piano chords for the verses, Bryce accidentally wrote “A Far Fall Away From All.”
