Lovin’ Side of Me

Lyrics

I’ve been walking
Down this long and lonesome hallway
For what seems to be
At least a million years
And I can’t help but wonder
Do you ever see things my way?
Where it’s you and me
Through happiness and tears
Oh, I could save you
From your darkest fears

Chorus

But you don’t get to see
The lovin’ side of me (lovin’ side of me)
And you don’t seem to know
The places we could go (whoa-oh)
If you could be
The one beside me (the one beside me)
Then I could show you all there is to show
Just let me know

I’ve been searching
For the words that I should say
Would it be alright
If I tell you how I feel? (how I feel)
I see you as you are
But my feelings are tucked away
This love I feel inside—
Could this be real?
Oh, this love I feel inside
Is very real

(Chorus)

I know I act like someone else
When you’re around, I can’t help myself
It seems so hard to carry on
When my heart’s up and gone

(Repeat Chorus)

The lovin’ side of me
Take my hand, you’ll see, yeah!

Trivia

“Lovin’ Side of Me” was musically influenced both by “Push” by Matchbox Twenty and “Home” by Daughtry.

The “long and lonesome hallway” is an employees-only corridor behind Guest Services at the Lakeville Super Target in 2007. The subject of the song was a co-worker Bryce had a crush on at the time.

Somewhere in Dreamworld, as a full album, was recorded three different times while Bryce attended the (now defunct) Institute of Production and Recording (IPR) in Minneapolis. “Lovin’ Side of Me” was written after the third attempt, so it wasn’t included on the record until the first home-studio version in 2009.

Bryce played a number of acoustic shows from 2007–2012, and “Lovin’ Side of Me” was on the set list for almost every single show. Ironically, during Midnight Notion’s full-band run from 2018–2022, the song was only played twice.

While recording in 2018, producer and mixer Wally Joseph challenged the vocal melody for the chorus, bridge, and outro. It wasn’t clicking the way it should. Bryce ended the session, took the instrumental home, and reworked it to sound more appealing. You can hear the original version in the Extras section below.
