Heartache Collector

Lyrics

Hey! Hey!
Hey! Hey!

Something isn’t right
Stuck in disarray
And all the world is turning gray
Although she lets you hold her tight
She’ll lead you to the fray
And make your whole world go astray
And you will pay, okay?
I bet she’ll get her way
I bet she’ll run away at just the thought she’s got to stay
I say no way, okay?
Watch out for the betray
You’d better run away
You’d better run away
Yeah!

Chorus

She’s a heartache collector
She won’t let nobody get her
She’s a love-faker, heartbreaker
Can’t escape her, God forsake her
Never gonna ever let you go
Hey! Hey!

Everybody knows
She can make you high
And make you plummet from the sky this time
And even when she goes
She will still supply
A way to make your world awry inside your mind
But why?
She’ll look you in the eye
She’ll feed you with a lie
And then she’ll leave you hanging dry
And you comply, but why?
You know it’s do-or-die
You’d better say goodbye
You’d better say goodbye
Yeah!

(Chorus)

Hear her calling from cloud nine
(From cloud nine!)
So enthralling, so divine
(So divine!)
Hordes come crawling
See them falling
Let her go or get in line

Heartache collector
Let nobody get her
Love-faker, heartbreaker
Can’t escape her, God forsake her
Never gonna ever let you go! Go! Go!

She’s a heartache collector
She won’t let nobody get her
She’s a love-faker, heartbreaker
Can’t escape her, God forsake her
Never gonna ever sever
Always gonna be the better
Will regret her, can’t forget her
Never, never, never, never
Heartache collector!
Hey! Hey!

Never gonna ever let you go!

Trivia

“Heartache Collector” was first performed live in 2015 at the Bryant Lake Bowl in Minneapolis, MN during a featured guest spot in an improv show called The Local Music Scene. In the show, musical guests perform songs, then improvisors do improv scenes based on the lyrics. Bryce played guitar and sang along with a pre-recorded track. Bryce eventually joined The Local Music Scene as an improvisor in 2019.

The rhyme scheme in the verses is notably one-dimensional, with the first verse using “ay” rhymes and the second verse using “I” rhymes. This was intentional. Bryce wanted to challenge himself to use as many of the same sounding words as possible.
