Hey, Babe

Lyrics

Hey babe, I just wanted to call and say
It’s been a while since I’ve seen your face
I don’t know why I need you by my side
But I don’t care, anyway
Hey babe, I just wanted to call and say
It’s been a while since I’ve seen your face
I don’t know why I need you by my side
But I don’t care, anyway

Hey girl, I’m just saying you rock my world
The way you smile with those precious pretty pearls
My anodyne—you make me better all the time
Hey girl, you rock my world

Whoa-oh!
When I’m with you, I can see inside my mind
Whoa-oh!
Together for all time

Hey you, I thought I saw you across the room
But I was wrong and I’m feeling so blue
I need you now, and I don’t care what, where, why, and how
So call soon for me and you

When life gets hard and you don’t know what to do
You can always count on me
‘Cause I can always count on you.

Whoa-oh!
When I’m with you, I can see inside my mind
Whoa-oh!
Together for all time
Whoa-oh!
When I look in your eyes everything’s just fine
Whoa-oh!
So call me back sometime!

Whoa-oh!
When I’m with you, I can see inside my mind
Whoa-oh!
Together for all time!
Whoa-oh!
When I look in your eyes everything feels right
Whoa-oh!
So call me back tonight

Hey, baby!
Yeah!

Trivia

The voice greeting in the intro was voiced by Amanda Irrthum, and there are no effects on her voice whatsoever. Under Bryce’s direction, she set it as her actual voice greeting (and left it that way for several years!), then he recorded himself calling her.

The entire song is meant to be a voicemail. The original intent was to end the song with an automated voice saying “we’re sorry, your call cannot be completed as dialed.” Bryce imagines that sound every time the song ends, but must have just forgotten to add it. Oh well!

During the bridge, there are a series of voicemail messages, each proclaiming how much they miss someone. The voicemails were kindly left by Pamela Mazzone, Becky Wilkinson Hauser, Emily Larkin, Linda Mohagen, Michael Deneen, SCHRAMM, Sabrina Diehl, Sara Elizabeth, and Vann Daley.
