Lyrics
It’s cold outside, and it’s raining
I can see your pretty face
The clouds don’t look too happy
But still I think of you
I should have talked to you
While I still had the chance
Because I never knew
That you would go away
Chorus
I traveled so far to see you again
But once I got there, you already left
I can’t say goodbye, I can’t say so long
And I can’t live because you’re gone
It’s been so many years
And I still think you’re coming home
But nothing can change your mind
And I’m here all alone
(Chorus)
If I could have one wish
It would be to see you again
But I can’t change the past
You left me an abandoned friend
On a rainy day…

Trivia
Karen is a true story about Bryce’s late aunt, Karen Bohn, who died of breast cancer when Bryce was about 13 years old. She had taken care of Bryce many times when he was growing up (even more than her brother: Bryce’s father), so it was a major loss for him. Worse, he was living in Colorado at the time, and unable to get back to Minnesota to visit her before she passed.
The acoustic guitar for this track was recorded at The Institute of Production and Recording (IPR) in Minneapolis, MN. It was intended to be part of Somewhere in Dreamworld, but when that record got put on hold, the recording was recycled for The Archives: 1–10.
This is the first official Midnight Notion release to feature a piano.
