Trivia

The working title for this song was “Comeback” because it was written at a time when Bryce’s second band, Rascality, was attempting to reunite (circa 2006). The reunion did not last more than a jam session or two.

This song was heavily influenced by the Twin Cities band, Down and Above—one of Bryce’s all-time favorite bands.

“Last Breath” made its live debut at the Somewhere in Dreamworld album release show in 2019, where it was accidentally played at nearly twice the speed. Instead of stopping and redoing the count, the band powered through at lightning speed.

This song once had an extended intro, lovingly named “First Breath.”

The first-draft lyrics went unchanged for about 11 or 12 years. Being one of Bryce’s favorite musical pieces, he recorded, re-recorded, and played the song countless times. In 2017, when Bryce sent the full-album demo out for feedback, the number one criticism (for this and other songs) was weak lyrics. So Bryce created a vocabulary list of nautical terms and rewrote the lyrics to be what they are today. Here are the original lyrics:
